Alex Petrik concentrates his practice on complex employment and commercial litigation matters. He has represented entities in their most challenging matters in federal and state courts across the country.
Prior to joining KHVPF, Alex was an associate in the Detroit office of Barnes & Thornburg, where he was in the employment and litigation practice groups. In that role, he represented various employers, including Fortune 500 companies, involving claims of harassment, retaliation, discrimination, wrongful termination, and wage and hour issues. In the commercial context, he represented various entities in construction disputes, and counseled and represented corporate policyholders in insurance coverage disputes.
Previously, Alex, with a Michigan law firm, acted as a Special Assistant Attorney General representing a Michigan state agency in litigation revolving around the construction of a multi-billion dollar international infrastructure project. Before that, Alex worked for a large Midwest law firm, where he counseled insurers in complex and high-exposure insurance coverage issues related to defective products, asbestos, mold, directors and officers, construction defect, environmental contamination, class actions, and mass torts. He also assisted in virtually all aspects of coverage litigation, including e-discovery and the drafting of dispositive and responsive motions.
Before private practice, Alex gained experience as a law clerk for the Honorable Christopher M. Murray in the Michigan Court of Appeals. In that role, he was instrumental in the preparation of judicial opinions and bench memos for a vast array of civil and criminal cases.
